What Elliptic is
Elliptic is an agent-native work platform. The shortest way to describe it is Jira for your agents and your team: humans and AI agents share the same projects, tasks, board, notes, meetings, and the same connected history of everything that happened. There is no separate AI bolt-on and no second tool for the bots. An agent picks up a task, moves it across the board, writes a note, or answers a question over exactly the same surfaces you do.
Instead of scattering work across a project tracker, a notes app, a meeting recorder, and a chat tool, Elliptic keeps your projects, tasks, notes, meetings, calendar, and a complete activity feed in one connected system. Every item keeps its context, so when you open a task you can see the meeting it came from, the note that referenced it, and everything that has happened to it since.
It works the way a modern issue tracker does, with a fast board of Linear-style tasks, but it reaches further than tasks. Meetings get transcripts and AI summaries that capture what was decided and who owns it. A single activity feed threads tasks, meetings, and decisions into one timeline. And a company brain lets your team and your agents ask questions across all of it at once.
The one rule: BYOK
There is one rule that shapes every AI feature in Elliptic: bring your own key (BYOK). Every AI feature runs on your organization's own model key. You store an OpenAI or Anthropic API key once, at the organization level, and all AI work, meeting summaries, asking a meeting, the company brain, and your agents, runs on that key.
There is no hidden pooled model and no shared bill. Elliptic never quietly routes your prompts through a model account you do not control. The cost lands on your own provider invoice, the data stays under your control, and you decide which provider and which model your organization uses.
Create your account
Your account is your personal login, identified by your email address and protected by a password. It carries your full name and follows you across every organization you belong to. One account can be a member of many organizations at once.
On the hosted instance, head to elliptic.sh and choose Start free, which opens the sign-up page. If you are self-hosting, open your own instance's URL instead.
- Open sign-upGo to the home page and select Start free, or go straight to the Create your account page.
- Enter your detailsProvide your full name, your email address, and a password. The password must be at least 8 characters.
- Create the accountSelect Create account. If your instance has email sending configured, Elliptic sends a 6-digit verification code and takes you to the Verify your email page. If email is not configured, your account is verified automatically and you go straight to choosing a workspace.
Verifying your email
Email verification turns on automatically whenever your instance has an email provider configured. When it is on, Elliptic emails you a 6-digit code right after sign-up and you confirm it before you can use the account.
- Read the codeOpen the email from Elliptic and copy the 6-digit code. The code is valid for a limited time, so use it promptly.
- Enter itOn the Verify your email page, type the 6 digits and select Verify. Elliptic signs you in and continues to the workspace chooser.
- Need a new code?If the code did not arrive or has expired, select Resend code. There is a short cooldown between resends, and a fresh code replaces the previous one.
Already have an account? Use the Sign in link instead. You enter your email and password, and Elliptic drops you back into your most recent workspace. Sessions are kept in secure cookies, so you do not re-enter your password every visit.
If your instance has them configured, the sign-in page also offers Continue with Google or Continue with GitHub, and single sign-on by company domain, so you can sign in without a password. To sign out, open the user menu at the bottom-left of the workspace and choose Log out.
Create or join a workspace
An organization (org), also called a workspace, is the shared home for one company or team. Your projects, tasks, notes, meetings, people, and your model key all live inside an organization. The entire app lives under /app/<org-id>, so every screen you open belongs to exactly one org. There are two ways in: create your own, or accept an invite.
Create a new workspace
If you are starting a fresh company workspace, you create the organization and automatically become its owner.
- Open the workspace chooserRight after sign-up you land on Choose a workspace. If you already belong to orgs, you can also create one from the org switcher at the top of the sidebar.
- Start a new organizationSelect New organization (or Create organization if this is your very first one).
- Name itEnter a name such as Acme Inc. The name must be at least 2 characters. Elliptic generates a URL-friendly slug from the name automatically, you never set one by hand.
- CreateSelect Create. You become the owner, Elliptic seeds a default task workflow for the org, and it takes you straight into your projects with the first-project dialog open, so you can start working immediately.
The slug is derived from your name, for example Acme Inc becomes acme-inc. Slugs are unique across the instance, so if your name produces one that is already taken, Elliptic appends a short random suffix automatically (for example acme-inc-4f9a2c). The slug is stable, renaming your org later does not change it.
Join by invite
If a teammate is adding you to an existing organization, an admin or owner sends an invitation tied to your email address. You accept it through a one-time link that is valid for 7 days and can be used only once, by the exact email it was issued to.
- Open the invite linkClick the invite link your admin shared. It opens the Join page, which shows the organization, the role you are being given, and the email the invite was sent to.
- Sign in with the invited emailYou must be signed in with the exact email address the invite was sent to. If you do not have an account yet, create one with that email; if you are signed in as someone else, switch to the invited address first.
- AcceptOnce you are signed in with the matching email, Elliptic accepts the invite for you and drops you into the organization's projects. If your email needs verification first, finish that step before accepting.
Switch between workspaces
If you belong to more than one organization, you move between them from the org switcher at the top of the sidebar.
- Open the switcherSelect the organization name at the top of the sidebar.
- Pick another orgChoose any organization from the list. A checkmark marks the one you are in. Elliptic switches you over and opens that org's projects.
- Or create a new oneSelect New organization at the bottom of the switcher to spin up another workspace.
First steps
A brand-new workspace shows a get-started checklist on your home view. It is not a static tour, each item flips to done automatically as Elliptic detects the matching thing in your org, computed from live counts. The card shows your progress and disappears on its own once every step is complete (you can also dismiss it). Here is what it tracks:
| Step | What it means | Done when |
|---|---|---|
| Create your first project | Spin up a container for related work, where tasks live. | Your org has at least one project. |
| Add a work item | Create your first task on the board. | Your org has at least one task. |
| Invite a teammate | Bring a second person into the org by invite. | The org has more than one member. |
| Plan a cycle | Set up a cycle (a time-boxed sprint of work). | Your org has at least one cycle. |
| Write a note or doc | Capture a spec, decision, or research note. | Your org has at least one note. |
| Connect an AI provider | Add your OpenAI or Anthropic key (this is BYOK). | Your org has at least one provider key stored. |
Each row links straight to where you do that work, so the checklist doubles as a launchpad. Connecting an AI provider is the step that turns on every AI surface in the product, including your agents, so it is worth doing early.
Find your way around
Once you are inside an organization, every page shares the same frame: a sidebar on the left, a top bar across the top, and your current view filling the rest of the screen.
The sidebar
The left sidebar is how you move between sections. At the very top sits the org switcher, showing your current organization. Below it, navigation is grouped into two sections, Personal (what is on your plate) and Workspace (the shared surfaces of the org). Your user menu sits at the bottom.
| Section | Item | What it opens |
|---|---|---|
| Personal | My Tasks | Every task assigned to you across all projects, in one personal list. |
| Personal | Inbox | Your personal inbox of things needing your attention. |
| Personal | Assistant | Your AI assistant, working on your org's own model key. |
| Personal | Triage | Incoming items to sort and route, with a live count badge. |
| Personal | Notes | Your notes and documents. |
| Personal | Stickies | Quick sticky notes for fleeting thoughts. |
| Workspace | Projects | All projects and their task boards. The default landing page. |
| Workspace | Initiatives | Larger bodies of work that span projects. |
| Workspace | Releases | Shipping milestones and what is going out in them. |
| Workspace | Customers | The customers your work is tied to. |
| Workspace | Meetings | Recorded meetings with transcripts and AI summaries. |
| Workspace | Calendar | A time-based view of the organization. |
| Workspace | Activity | The live, organization-wide activity feed. |
| Workspace | Query | Ask the company brain across every surface at once. |
| Workspace | Dashboards | Saved views and metrics about your work. |
| Workspace | Settings | Org settings, members and invites, and your model key. |
Star a project and a Favorites group appears in the sidebar for fast access to it. The sidebar is otherwise yours to arrange. Drag any item to reorder it, or use its options menu to Pin to top or Move to More, a collapsible group at the bottom that keeps your nav focused. On a wide layout you can also collapse the whole sidebar to icons. Your arrangement is remembered on your device.
The top bar
The bar across the top of every page shows the name of the section you are in. On the right it carries the tools you will reach for constantly:
- Quick add. A fast way to capture a task from anywhere in the app.
- Search and command palette. Select Search, or press ⌘K (Ctrl-K on Windows), to jump anywhere or run quick actions without leaving the keyboard. One query spans projects, tasks, meetings, and notes, and the same palette can create a project, note, task, or calendar event, or import a meeting, on the spot.
- Help menu. Links into the docs and help.
- Notification bell. Surfaces alerts about things that need you, mentions, assignments, and updates from across the organization.
The user menu
At the bottom-left of the sidebar is your user menu, showing your name and email. Open it to jump to your Account, open Org settings, or Log out of your account.
Where to go next
You now have an account, a workspace, and a feel for how to get around. From here, dive into the section that matches what you want to do:
- Organizations & Members, how orgs, roles, invites, and teams fit together.
- Projects & Tasks, create projects, run the Linear-style board, assign and prioritize work, and use My Tasks.
- AI, Brain & Automations, add your OpenAI or Anthropic key, use the company brain, and put automations to work, all on BYOK.
- Company-Brain MCP, the technical guide to the surface your agents operate over.
- Set up your agent, give an AI member its own seat and let it work the board alongside your team.
